Technician Privacy Policy
(For Verified Locksmith Technicians Only)

LockAtlas Corporation ("we," "us," "LockAtlas"), a Delaware corporation, operates the LockAtlas Technician mobile application ("Technician App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use the Technician App as an independent contractor locksmith technician.
1. Information We Collect from Technicians
Personal and Business Information
- Full legal name, date of birth, home address, phone number, email address
- Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN) for tax reporting
- Driver's license number and copy
- Business name, business entity type (sole proprietor, LLC, S-Corp, etc.), and business registration documents
- Professional photo and profile information
Licensing and Credentials
- New York State locksmith license number and copy
- Certificates of insurance (general liability, workers compensation)
- Background check consent and results (administered by Checkr or similar provider)
- Driving record (if applicable)
Financial Information
- Bank account number and routing number (via Stripe Connect for payouts)
- Stripe Connect account information
- Transaction history, earnings, and payout records
- Tax forms (W-9, 1099-K, 1099-NEC)
Location and Activity Data
- Real-time GPS location (only when you are clocked in, en route, or on a job)
- Route data and mileage
- Job acceptance, completion, and cancellation history
- Customer ratings, reviews, and feedback
- Photos and videos you upload for price exceptions or job documentation
Device and Usage Data
- Device model, operating system, unique device identifiers
- IP address and network information
- App usage statistics and interactions
- Communications with customers and LockAtlas support through the Platform
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Verify your identity, licenses, insurance, and background check results
- Onboard you to the Platform and maintain your technician profile
- Match you with customers based on location, availability, and job requirements
- Calculate job pricing and your revenue split (50/50, 55/45, or 60/40 based on performance)
- Process weekly payouts via Stripe Connect
- Monitor job quality, customer ratings, and compliance with our Technician Terms
- Send job notifications, training reminders, and platform updates
- Provide customer support and resolve disputes
- Detect and prevent fraud, safety issues, and Terms violations
- Comply with tax reporting, insurance verification, and legal obligations
- Improve the Platform through analytics and performance monitoring
4. Location Data and Background Location Tracking
PROMINENT DISCLOSURE: BACKGROUND LOCATION USAGE
LockAtlas collects and uses your precise GPS location in the background (even when the app is closed or not in use) to enable the following essential features:
- Real-time job matching: We connect you with nearby customers based on your current GPS location
- Live ETA tracking: Customers can see your real-time location and estimated arrival time while you are en route to a job
- Route optimization: We track your travel routes to calculate mileage-based earnings and optimize future job assignments
- Platform safety: Background location helps us verify service completion and investigate safety incidents
When Background Location Is Active
Background location tracking is ONLY active when you are:
- ✓ Clocked in and available for job requests
- ✓ En route to an accepted job
- ✓ On-site completing a job
You will see a persistent notification on your Android device whenever background location tracking is active. This notification confirms that LockAtlas is collecting your location.
When Location Tracking Stops
Location tracking stops automatically when you:
- Clock out in the app
- Mark a job as complete
- Close the app and remain offline for more than 30 minutes
Your Control Over Location Access
You can disable background location access in your Android device settings at any time (Settings > Apps > LockAtlas > Permissions > Location > Deny or Allow only while using the app). However, disabling background location will prevent you from receiving job requests and may result in account suspension, as background location is essential to the core functionality of the Technician App.
Additional Location Details
- We do NOT track your location when you are clocked out or offline
- We do NOT share your exact home address or off-duty location with customers
- Location data is encrypted during transmission and storage
- Historical location data is retained for 90 days for safety audits, then permanently deleted
5. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Access and Correction
You may access and update your profile information at any time through the Technician App or by contacting privacy@lockatlas.com.
Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing privacy@lockatlas.com. Upon deletion, your account will be deactivated, and we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except for information we must retain for legal, tax, or regulatory purposes (retained for 7 years, then permanently deleted).
Opt-Out of Non-Essential Notifications
You may opt out of non-essential notifications (marketing, tips, etc.) in the Technician App settings. Note: You cannot opt out of essential notifications related to jobs, payouts, or account status.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- Right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it
- Right to delete personal information (with exceptions for legal/tax requirements)
- Right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
To exercise these rights, email privacy@lockatlas.com. We will respond within 45 days.
European Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including rights to access, rectification, erasure, data portability, and objection to processing. Contact privacy@lockatlas.com to exercise these rights.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information as follows:
- Active Account: We keep your data as long as your technician account is active and you are providing services
- After Deactivation: We retain identity, tax, and transaction data for 7 years to comply with IRS regulations, insurance requirements, and legal obligations
- After 7 Years: We permanently delete all personal information unless legally required to retain it longer
7. Security Measures
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:
- Bank-level encryption (TLS/SSL) for data transmission
- Encrypted data storage on secure servers
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Restricted access to personal information on a need-to-know basis
- Secure background check processing through certified providers
However, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but will notify you promptly of any data breaches.
8. Background Checks and Verification
As part of our verification process, we use Checkr or similar providers to conduct background checks, including:
- Criminal records (federal, state, county)
- Sex offender registry
- Identity verification
- Driving record (if applicable)
You consent to these checks by accepting the Technician Terms. Background check results are confidential and used solely to verify your eligibility for the Platform. We retain background check data for 7 years after account termination.
9. Tax Reporting
We are required by law to report your earnings to the IRS. We collect your SSN or EIN for this purpose and will issue Form 1099-K or 1099-NEC as required. This information is securely stored and never shared except as required by tax law.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Technician App may contain links to third-party services (e.g., Stripe, Checkr). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. Please review their privacy policies before providing them with information.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We use standard contractual clauses and other safeguards to protect your data during international transfers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email and through the Technician App at least 30 days before changes take effect. Your continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
