Lock Rekeying Service in NYC

Rekeying changes the key combination inside a compatible lock cylinder so the old keys no longer operate it. It can avoid replacing sound hardware when the aim is to change access. Reasons to consider rekeying include: • Moving into a home or apartment • A roommate moving out • Lost or stolen keys • Employee turnover • Ending access for someone who previously held a key If the lock or door is damaged, describe that separately. Rekeying alone does not repair a mechanical problem.

Rekeying may suit a compatible lock in good working condition. Replacement may be more appropriate when the hardware is damaged, does not meet the required access function or lacks the features you need. Ask the provider to assess: • Whether the existing cylinder can be rekeyed • Whether multiple locks can share the requested key • Any restricted-key authorization or parts requirements • Whether the door or latch also needs repair Compare the proposed work and its total before deciding.

The estimate depends on the number and type of cylinders, required parts, keys requested and any restricted-key or master-key requirements. Include photos and describe whether you have a working key. Review the current service fee, labor, parts and applicable tax before confirming. Check the cost and purpose of any proposed additional work before approving it.
